ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION IN UGANDA

HOW CAN WE PROTECT OUR COMMUNITIES FROM ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION?

Alongside the issues of Uganda’s struggles in the areas of poverty, technology, education, and violence… Land degradation, water pollution, and deforestation are also massive issues in the nation. With a third of Uganda being unable to gain access to water, it is a country on the edge of a water crisis. This makes water pollution much more alarming, as the geographical setting of Uganda makes it difficult to access water; we must do everything we can to resolve these environmental issues as fast as we can.
Over 80% of Uganda’s population relies directly on environmental resources for their livelihoods.
Around 96% of the needy population in Uganda live in the country regions. As indicated by people facing poverty, the nature of regular assets is declining; soil richness and efficiency of land, exhaustion of fish stocks, wetland infringement, as well as recovery and contamination of water assets. Normal property assets for development or touching are declining. Restricted admittance to land is the second most referred reason for neediness, and the poor population perceive that the rich are overseeing ecological assets.
The consequences of corrupted natural assets on the people of Uganda incorporate malnourishment, bad health, and expanded nonappearance from schools due to the additional time spent gathering water and kindling. All of this makes change out of destitution much more troublesome, particularly for women.
According to globalwaters.org, only 18% of Uganda’s population have safely managed and basic service sanitation. Furthermore, only 49% of the population have access to safely managed and basic service drinking water.
MOLOKAI is committed to working closely with schools to train teachers and students on environmental conservatorship, agroforestry, planting of fruit trees to provide nutrients to children and also conserve the environment.
With your contribution, you can help PLATFORM for the NEEDY achieve the following in the area of environmental conservation:
○ $0.5 Buys a native tree seedlings to reduce soil erosion.
○ $2 purchases a fruit tree for schools
○ $200 enables training on environment conservation in 5 schools
○ $400 will enable the purchase and distribution of tree seedlings 5 schools
○ $500 will enable 30 farmers to receive training on better methods.
○ $200 will enable 20 people to receive training in briquette making.
○ $400 enables 50 homes to receive tree seedlings
○ $200 will enable 10 people to receive training on energy-saving stoves..
○ $5000 will enable us to acquire a piece of land for a nursery bed
○ $300 will support a drama community outreach performance
